KIU will work with World renowned Tongji University Shanghai China in the areas of joint research, faculty and students exchange in the areas of Civil Engineering, Bridge Engineering and Disaster Management. This was agreed in a meeting between VC KIU and Director International Office Mr. Chen Yili. Prof. Jia Chen representing Civil Engineering department was also present in the meeting. VC KIU informed the participants about the newly established Engineering and Technology Campus and the plan to initiate BS Civil Engineering program besides existing programs in BS Mining Engineering, BS Civil Engineering Tech and BS Electrical Engineering Tech. Tongji University is world top in Civil and Bridge Engineering. He explained that the civil challenges of the region including disaster and impact resilient infrastructure, tunneling, materials etc. In this context the support of Tingji University was also solicited. Director International office Chen Yili explained that the university has large number of collaborations with Universities in Europe, North America and Asia. Under such collaborations, the students and faculty are exchanged on regular basis.
VC KIU informed that under China Study Centre and Confucius Set at KIU, efforts are made to teach Chinese language to the students and connect with people and culture of China. In this context the first batch of students of Forestry and Horticulture will be placed at Yunnan Agriculture Technology College at Kunming in next year. This will be followed by exchange of Faculty and staff. VC KIU further informed that Chinese scholars regularly visit the Conferences at KIU. With the support of Chinese Academy of Sciences, Data Centre for Climate and Cryosphere is being established at KIU as part of China Pakistan Joint Research Centre. At the end the University Souvenir was presented to VC and he presented his book on China Pakistan Friendship.
