Faculty of Life Sciences

The Faculty of Life Sciences has four teaching departments; Department of Biological Sciences, Department of Agriculture and Food Technology, Department of Chemistry and Department of Environmental Sciences. The faculty is headed by the Dean Prof. Dr. Khalil Ahmed, who supervises and coordinates the academic activities of the faculty.

The faculty aims to achieve excellence in imparting knowledge and skills in relevance to life sciences to equip the students for management of resources, eradication of poverty, development of local knowledge, industry, and development of the area. We focus especially on the applied type of research in the areas of biodiversity, environmental issues, biological and health related problems, bio-organic and medicinal chemistry, agriculture and food processing technologies. Our teaching is research-led and integrative, ensuring that our courses are at the cutting edge and that our students are prepared for the future. We have institutional and research collaborations with Norwegian University of Life Sciences, National Institute of Health, Fogarty International Centre, USA, Kathmandu University, Nepal, Institute of Forestry Tribhuvan University Pokhara Nepal, FAO and International Atomic Energy Agency Vienna Austria, Dept. of International Research and Training for Environment Studies UMB Norway, the School of Chemistry, University of East Anglia, UK, United Nations Development Programme (UNDP), ICIMOD Nepal, EV-K2-CNR, Italy and University of Oregon, USA etc. We have 27 PhDs in our faculty and a large number of high ranked publications with 3 patents. Undergraduate and graduate programs are offered by all the four departments of the faculty.
